FAQ

Getting started

How do I install or where do I get updates?
You don’t have to download or install any updates. Vectary is an online tool, which means you will always have the latest version when you use it. We will notify you with occasional emails about news, important updates and features. All major updates and news will be announced on our News page and on Facebook.
What are the computer requirements to run Vectary?
The online 3D tool Vectary runs in a regular WebGL-enabled browser such as Chrome or Firefox, on a laptop or desktop computer. Because it is browser-based, you don’t need to install anything, which is why it runs even on a Chromebook. We recommend using a mouse, however a touchpad on your laptop will work, too. Log in to your account from anywhere with an internet connection and resume all your work without transferring any files.
Who can see what I do in Vectary?
Just you. That is until you invite someone, or someone has invited you to collaborate on a 3D scene. When you are done with your design, you can share it to public repositories. Read more about our Privacy Policy.
What are templates?
The best way to get familiar with our 3D design tool is to edit and customize templates. A template is a project created by designers in Vectary. You can replace or edit every single 3D object, light, material or image and make your own designs.
I’ve got a link to a shared project, what should I do?
Both you and your friend or colleague can now work simultaneously on the same 3D scene. Share your knowledge or ask someone for help - you can create a sharable link to your Vectary project, too.

Is Vectary an easy tool to use? What do I need to get awesome results?
All you need is an internet connection on your laptop or desktop computer and NO previous 3D skills :) For those who tried other design software, you will love Vectary’s simple user interface. Give it a try or have a look at our Learn articles that will guide you and help you get started.
Why should I use Vectary?
Vectary is the ideal 3D tool for people new to 3D design, but it’s also so much more. Before Vectary, designers always had to think about their concept before opening a 3D tool. With Vectary, you can simply brainstorm, play with the shapes, or easily create complex objects. Once you’re done, you can export your prototype and continue modeling in any other tools you prefer.

FAQ

Managing your project

What is the difference between a “draft” and a “public” project?

Drafts are only visible to you. They can be your work in progress, or simply any projects you don’t want to share. As a Free user, you can store up to 10 drafts. As a Premium user you can save up to 100 drafts, while as a Premium Plus user you benefit from an unlimited number of drafts.

Public projects are visible to everyone. If you choose to publish your project (under an available CC license), your project can be downloaded, customized and its remake can be published again by other users. This way your model can become an inspiration for the whole community!

All projects published in Vectary are licensed to other users under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license (CC BY-SA). For more information on licensing terms and possible uses of the projects, please see our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

Can I download my 3D files from Vectary and use them in other software?
Yes, of course. Please note that downloaded 3D files are exported as mesh models (baked), so you will lose the ability to customize their shape by changing parameters. The experience in other software may vary.
How do I know if the project is private or public?
You have a Published tab in the Dashboard, just click on it and your published models will be displayed. Your published models are also displayed in your Profile. Simply hover your cursor over your profile photo in the top right corner and click on Profile.
What file types can I import?
You can import .obj, .stl, .svg, .glb and .gltf files.
Can I change the name of my project?
Yes. You can always change the name of your project in the upper part of the editing scene. You have a unique link of the project, which is the project’s ID. The project name can also be changed when publishing it. To do so, just click the Share Project button.
How can I unpublish my project?
When you unpublish your project, you are basically deleting it. Don’t worry about losing the project. All your published projects have their saved drafts (unless you delete the draft). To delete the published project, in the Dashboard, go to the Published tab, click on the triple dot menu in the projects thumbnail and then click Delete.
How can I delete my project?
To delete your project, go to Dashboard and click on the triple dot menu in the thumbnail of the project. Click the Delete icon and confirm your action. If you are a subscribed user, your deleted projects go to the Deleted tab, where you can either restore the project back into Drafts, or Delete it forever.
Are there any restrictions on what can be published on Vectary?
Yes, all projects have to be in accordance with Vectary’s Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. Please do NOT publish content that is abusive, vulgar, sexually explicit, promoting racism, illegal activities, contributes to the creation of weapons, or is otherwise objectionable. Furthermore, your content should not infringe upon copyrights or any other third-party rights. For a detailed legal description of the above, please read our Terms of Use.
What happens when I publish my project?
If you choose to make your project public, it will be made visible to other users under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike license (CC-BY-SA).
This means that your project can be:
  • downloaded by other users
  • customized and/or shared by other users, under the same licensing terms as your project, in which case, you, as the author, have to be credited appropriately (if your project is customized and re-published with Vectary, we automatically add a link to your original project to credit you)

For more information on licensing terms, please read our Terms of Use.

What do I do if someone is uploading my designs to Vectary?
If somebody is violating your copyright or trademark, you can report it. Go to project view and click on Report inappropriate content. The reported project will be reviewed.

Yes, you can customize any published project on Vectary. Click the Edit project button in the project view. When you save your edited project, it will be added to your Drafts tab on the Dashboard. Anytime you choose to edit a project please make sure you are following the licensing terms of the project.
Can I publish a project which is a customization of a project created by another user?

To use your old models in the new version of Vectary, you first have to open them in the old version (it will do so automatically) and export them one by one. Then, you have to import them again to the new version and simply continue your design process.
